LNU is founded by Dr. Francisco Quimson Duque and Mrs. Florencia Tiongson Duque in 1969.


LNU started as a nursing school at the Dagupan City Polyclinic Hospital and then called the Dagupan City School of Nursing. Dr. Duque acquired the Northwestern Educational Institution in 1974. From the merger developed the name Lyceum-Northwestern. In the last piece of the year, Lyceum-Northwestern initiated a consortium of neighborhood colleges and established the Northern Philippines Institute of Medicine. Lyceum-Northwestern turned into the “first medical school of the north.” The establishment started with an enlistment of 19 students. The consortium endured two years.

On November 19, 2001, Lyceum-Northwestern was allowed its university status.
